We’ve decided to go with wordpress and host it on our own servers. We felt that wordpress really allowed us to customize the look, layout, and feel of our blog. In addition we get full control over our monetizing efforts. Also we decided to host our blog with HostWay. Since both of us, have hosted with them before we felt this was a comfortable choice. They actually upload wordpress for you, with the click of a button so that eliminated any code work on our end. Now it’s up to us to start blogging!

If you host your blog on your own servers you have complete control over the ad placement. You can put your ads into any sidebar, post, header or footer of your choosing. What I’ve found with free hosted blogs from blogger and wordpress is that your placement is limited.

What do you mean by having full control over your monetizing efforts? What is the diff b/t having Google Ad Sense on Blogger and having it on here? Just choosing a different ad agency?
